The Conservatory of Italian Switzerland

The Foundation of the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland has as its goal to promote the culture of music within the Italian part of Switzerland, to provide musical training at both basic and professional levels, as well as promoting artistic activity.

In the 25 years that the Conservatory has existed as a music school in the region, it has become a noted institution at the national and international levels.  This is possible due to: students who come from all over the world, their professors who have international prestige, and the exchange programs between regional institutions at both the national and international levels.

The Conservatory of Italian Switzerland operates at a human scale, is flexible, and its administration is easily accessible to parents and the public.  The students and the teachers have enough space to develop their own individuality.  These are additional reasons why the education offered at the Conservatory has obtained such a high level of excellence.

The Three Schools

Since the Conservatory was founded, three distinct schools have developed: the music school, the pre-university level, and the university level.  These three departments are constantly intertwined with one another yet maintain a clear distinction in their scope and formal level.

University School of Music

  • University level with 200 international students that are 18 years of age or older.  The school offers a Bachelors and Masters degree and a post-graduate level thereafter.

  • for students that follow the secondary school simultaneously (high school as well)
  • about 40 students, from 15 to 20 years of age

School of Music

  • structure based on the propedeutica formation, is a preparatory level for children, and offers options for adults
  • more than 1200 students, coming from 60 communities distributed throughout the territory, mainly composed of those students from the ages of 5 to 20
