History of the Choir

During the month of October 2009, the “Coro di Voci bianche Clairière” celebrated its first 10 years of existence.  Thanks to the close connection with the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland allowing extensive opportunities of musical experiences and offering frequent productions with musical support from ensembles or orchestras, the “Coro Clairière” has become a beautiful reality in our musical panorama.

In 2007, the choir was a part of the concerts and productions of the “Martha Argerich Project” in Lugano.  They participated in the realization of the “Planets” by Gustav Holst at the congress center “Palazzo dei Congressi” in Lugano accompanied by the Orchestra from Insubria and directed by Marc Andreae.

In 2008, the “Coro Clairière” sang at the “Paladozza” in Bologna, Italy while collaborating with the “Mozart Orchestra Project” in the production of the “Te Deum” of Hector Berlioz directed by Claudio Abbado.  The choir also presented the “Mass of the Children” by John Rutter with soprano and baritone solists, choruses of “voci bianche”, and mixed vocal choruses with instrumental ensembles and organ.

In 2009, “Coro Clairière” produced the opera “Brundibar” by Hans Krasa, with the ensemble of the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland and as a part of the production “Novecento” presented by Giorgio Bernasconi.  They joined the Orchestra of Itatian Switzerland and the choir of the Swiss RadioTelevisione on the stage of “Estival Jazz” in “Piazza Riforma”, Lugano in a concert by Rick Wakeman & Guy Protheroe.  In September, as part of the International Festival of Music “MITO”, “Coro Clairière” performed in the “Duomo” of Milan with the “Clemencic Consort” directed by René Clemencic for the occasion dedicated to “Matteo da Perugia” and the first “Cappella musicale” held in the “Duomo” of Milan.

In 2010, “Coro Clairière” presented its vast repertory of sacred music in a concert of “Voci Bianche” held in the “Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari” in Venice within the event of “musica nella preghiera”.  With the “Gruppo Confabula”, they presented the production “Pollicino”.  “Coro Clairière” also repeated the “Mass of the Children” as the Christmas concert for the “SRG SSR idée suisse” transmitted on “Rete2” Christmas Day.

The “Coro Clairière” has produced two book-CDs in collaboration with the writer Roberto Piumini: “Canta Natale”, published in December 2009 by the “Istituto Geografico De Agostini” and “Il coro e la voce”, published by “Ideali” of Milan in 2006.  It was presented also in the form of a concert-show on various occasions, for example at the Auditorium “LaVerdi” in Milan.

The “Choir Clairière has been directed from the beginning by Brunella Clerici, is currently composed of choral members from the ages between 10 and 18 years of age, and has a preparatory training that is offered through the choirs “Le Piccole Voci” and “Cantar Leggendo”.
